Alice nació en 1407. Fue la única hija legítima de Thomas de Montagu, IV conde de Salisbury, y Eleanor Holland, hija de Thomas Holland, II conde de Kent y Lady Alice FitzAlan. Por parte de padre, Eleanor era nieta de Juana de Kent, madre de Ricardo II de Inglaterra, y Thomas Holland, II barón Holland.
