  3. During World War Two, the school was under the name of the Amman Valley Grammar School, and twenty-five former pupils of the school lost their lives during the latter conflict. These men are commemorated on a memorial plaque, which was unveiled in the school on Thursday 5 May 1949.

The story of the struggle to build the first Intermediate (that is, Secondary) school in Ammanford is told in detail in Amman Valley Grammar School – the beginnings in this section of the web site. Briefly, it took almost twenty years for this school to materialise because of objections made by the governors of Llandeilo Intermediate school, built as early as 1896.
