Andrew Harclay, 1st Earl of Carlisle (c. 1270 – 3 March 1323), alternatively Andreas de Harcla, was an important English military leader in the borderlands with Scotland during the reign of Edward II. Coming from a knightly family in Westmorland, he was appointed sheriff of Cumberland in 1311.

Andrew Harclay, 1.er earl de Carlisle, conocido de forma alternativa como Andreas de Harcla, fue un importante líder militar inglés encargado de defender la frontera con Escocia durante el reinado de Eduardo II. Con raíces de una familia de caballeros de Westmorland, fue nombrado sheriff de Cumberland en 1311.
Andrew Harclay fue generosamente recompensado por su desempeño leal y competente en Boroughbridge. El 15 de marzo fue nombrado Conde de Carlisle y prometió tierras por valor de 1000 marcos anuales. Andrew Harclay was richly rewarded for his loyal and competent performance at Boroughbridge. On 25 March he was created Earl of Carlisle and promised lands worth 1,000 marks yearly. Yet Harclay, who had turned down Lancaster's overtures to join in the rebellion, was no great adherent of the King.
Earl of Carlisle is a title that has been created three times in the Peerage of England . History. The first creation came in 1322, when Andrew Harclay, 1st Baron Harclay, was made Earl of Carlisle. He had already been summoned to Parliament as Lord Harclay (or Lord Harcla) in 1321.
