He is the son of Angus Douglas-Hamilton, 15th Duke of Hamilton, and his first wife, Sarah Scott, and was educated at Keil School, Dumbarton, and Gordonstoun in Scotland.

Hace 3 días · The estate was bought from Charlesworth's executors in 1915 by Alfred Douglas-Hamilton, duke of Hamilton and Brandon (d. 1940), whose wife Nina (d. 1951) in 1939 established an animal sanctuary there. After 1951 the estate belonged to the Animal Defence and Anti-Vivisection Society.
