    Birth

    Anne Marie Thérèse de Lorraine was born in July 1648 at Palais Ducal du Nancy in Nancy as the fourth child and second daughter of Nicolas II François de Lorraine, Duc de Lorraine and his consort, Claude Françoise de Lorraine. On the same day of her birth, she was baptised in the Palace in a grand ceremony, which was attended by many members of the family. Her godparents were her uncle, Gaston d'Orléans, Duc d'Orléans and his wife, Anne's aunt, Marguerite de Lorraine, Duchesse d'Orléans.

    Childhood

    Growing up in the Palais Ducal du Nancy, Anne developed a strong appreciation for her aristocratic roots. From a young age she was being trained in the same manner as other foreign princesses of her time, learning sewing, weaving, dancing, and singing - a skill she thoroughly enjoyed and excelled at. As she grew older, Anne became quite accomplished, perfectly groomed for her role as a royal bride.

    Marriage

    When Anne reached maturity, marriage negotiations from all across Europe began circulating around. Her parents Nicolas II François de Lorraine, Duc de Lorraine, and his consort Claude Françoise de Lorraine sought out possible suitors from the Kings, Dukes, and Princes of European lands to find a suitable match for the Princesse. Many rulers from across the continent sought out Anne's hand in marriage. Her parents meticulously studied and considered each royal suitor. After careful consideration and negotiation, they chose Leopold Henri de Valois-Bourgogne, Duc de Bar, brother of the King of Burgundy as their ideal choice to wed Anne. Anne was eventually wed by proxy to the Duc de Bar, 14th August 1669.
