When Duchess Anne Stanhope was born in 1510, in Sudbury, Suffolk, England, her father, Sir Edward Stanhope, was 40 and her mother, Lady Elizabeth Bourchier, was 35. She married Sir Edward Seymour 1st Duke of Somerset before 9 March 1535. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 7 daughters.

Edward repudiated her in 1529, apparently because he believed she had a long-term affair with his father (for that same reason, in 1540 he entailed his estates away from the two sons they had together).
