The second son of Sir Edmund Denny of Cheshunt, Anthony Denny was one of the very few close friends of Henry VIII. A member of the Privy Council, he was promoted in 1538 to the highest position at court as one of the two chief gentlemen of the chamber.

Edmund was a Hertfordshire landowner who went on to become Baron of the Exchequer in the early years of Henry VIII’s reign.
