Leopold had two sons, George and Arthur, by his mistress Arcadie Meyer (née Claret). [30] [31] George von Eppinghoven was born in 1849, and Arthur von Eppinghoven in 1852. At Leopold's request, [31] in 1862 his two sons were created Freiherr von Eppinghoven by his nephew, Ernest II, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha ; in 1863 Arcadie was also created Baronin von Eppinghoven.
Arcadie Meyer, Baroness of Eppinghoven, born Marie-Anne Arcadie Eugénie Claret (30 May 1826 – 13 January 1897), was a Belgian noblewoman and the mistress Aston Villa F.C. The club colours are a claret shirt with sky blue sleeves, white shorts with claret and blue trim, and sky blue socks with claret and white trim.

Soon after Charlotte’s birth, in 1844, King Leopold I met a 16-year old girl named Arcadie Claret. He was 54 years old at the time, but that didn’t stop him from having an affair with a teenage girl.
