Arlette de Falaise (ou Herleva, Erlève, Herlève, Herlotte, Herlotte note 1 ), née vers 1010 et morte vers 1050 1, est la concubine du duc de Normandie Robert le Magnifique. Elle est la mère de Guillaume de Normandie puis, après son mariage avec Herluin de Conteville, de deux autres fils : Odon de Bayeux et Robert de Mortain .

Orderic reports the birth of William as occurring at Falaise, in Normandy, presumed to be Herleva's native town, apparently during 1026/7. In a separate addition to the Gesta, Orderic relates an anecdote that has given rise to Fulbert being characterized with more humble origins, as a tanner.

The Arlette fountain: the origins of William the Conqueror . Robert the Magnificent, then Duke of Normandy, enjoyed spending time in the medieval city of Falaise. Legend has it that it was during a stay in the fortified town, on his return from a hunting trip, that he saw Arlette for the first time, daughter of a furrier merchant.
