Life. Bagrat was the son of the Georgian King David IX by his wife Sindukhtar Jaqeli. He was co-ruler from 1355, and became king after the death of his father in 1360. Bagrat V was respected by his subjects, who nicknamed him the Great. According to Armenian and Greek chroniclers, the king was a skilful warrior and a talented military leader.
