Barbara Villiers war das einzige Kind von William Villiers, 2. Viscount Grandison und der reichen Erbin Mary Bayning. 27 de nov. de 2023 · George Villiers wasn’t the only Villiers member to have a close relationship with King Charles II. As the only child of the 1st Duke of Buckingham’s half-nephew, Barbara Palmer was perhaps the most prominent mistress of the ruling monarch. Though she was married twice, her relationship with the King produced many offspring.
Barbara Villiers continued her affair with Chesterfield, as much to ignite the King’s jealousy and she seemed to revel in the humiliation of her rival Lady Elizabeth. This became of course common knowledge with the gossip at court and would have made its way back to the worried Duke and Duchess.
In 1659 Barbara Villiers had married Roger Palmer, later Earl of Castlemaine, although soon after she became King Charles II's mistress, exerting considerable political influence until her fall from favour in the early 1670s.
