He was a Founding Father of the United States and also served as Virginia's governor (1781–1784). Benjamin V was a member of the Harrison family of Virginia.
1781 - 1782 Assembly - Benjamin Harrison was elected governor on Nov. 30, 1781, and was succeeded by William Green Munford. 1791 Assembly - Benjamin Harrison was elected but died before the session began. He called for more funding for education in African American communities. He believed that education was crucial in bridging the economic and political gap between whites and blacks.
