He was a Founding Father of the United States and also served as Virginia's governor (1781–1784). Benjamin V was a member of the Harrison family of Virginia.

The younger Harrison spent far more time in Washington, D.C., serving a four-year term as the nation’s 23rd president from 1889-1893. Still, his presidency was marred by death, too, when First Lady Caroline Harrison succumbed to tuberculosis.
