  6. Benjamin Harrison VI (1755-1799) succeeded his father at Berkeley. In 1790, under the guidance of Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) , 3rd President of the United States, Benjamin VI renovated the interior of the mansion with Adam-style woodwork hand-carved by slaves to form the cornices and chair moldings.
