However, St. Peter's is functionally the Pope's principal church, as most Papal liturgies and ceremonies take place there due to its size, proximity to the Papal residence, and location within the Vatican City proper.

The Dome is open to the public every day from 9 am through 8 pm. There is an admission fee of EUR 7.00, there are guided tours and you can rent an audio-guide. Entry is free with the purchase of the Berlin Pass.
