The House of Lippe-Biesterfeld was a comital cadet line of the House of Lippe (a German dynasty reigning from 1413 until 1918, of comital and, from 1789, of princely rank). The comital branch of Lippe-Biesterfeld ascended the throne of the Principality of Lippe in 1905, after the extinction of the ruling main branch, when count Leopold of Lippe-Biesterfeld became Leopold IV, Prince of Lippe .

El Conde Julio de Lippe-Biesterfeld (en alemán: Julius Peter Hermann August Graf und Edler Herr zur Lippe-Biesterfeld; 2 de abril de 1812-17 de mayo de 1884) fue Conde de Lippe-Biesterfeld entre 1840 y 1884 y padre de Ernesto II, regente del Principado de Lippe. Es un ancestro del rey Guillermo Alejandro de los Países Bajos .
Bernardo fue el sexto y último hijo del príncipe Federico Juan de Sajonia-Meiningen y de la condesa Adelaida de Lippe-Biesterfeld (a partir de 1905 fue princesa de Lippe). Su padre fue el segundo hijo del duque Jorge II de Sajonia-Meiningen y su madre fue hija del conde Ernesto Casimiro de Lippe-Biesterfeld, regente del Principado de Lippe.
