The Bishop’s School, as it was then called, opened on its current site on the 16th April 1890 with 45 boys.   5. After Bishop Wordsworth's death in 1911, the school was renamed to Bishop Wordsworth's School to continue the lasting tradition of quality education that he had started. In July 1892 the school adopted its first Science Specialism (!) and as a result the Chemistry Lab was equipped that year too.

  6. Hayward was born in Caversham, Berkshire, on 26 October 1959, brought up near Romsey, Hampshire, and attended Bishop Wordsworth's School, Salisbury, from 1971 to 1978. He trained as a journalist at the London College of Printing (now the London College of Communication, University of the Arts) (1978-80) and won its 1979–80 Journalism Prize.
