When he established the school his intention was that it should be a centre for education right at the very heart of Salisbury, in what is probably the most beautiful Cathedral Close in Europe.   3. The Bishop’s School, as it was then called, opened on its current site on the 16th April 1890 with 45 boys. Girls were welcomed in 1902 and the school was coeducational until 1927, when the girls departed to their new school on Stratford Road. Originally there were boarders, but since the Second World War we have catered for day pupils only.

  4. Bishop Wordsworth personally donated £3000 (about £35,000 today), which was used to purchase a portion of land in the Cathedral Close and build the original school buildings. After Bishop Wordsworth's death in 1911, the school was renamed to Bishop Wordsworth's School to continue the lasting tradition of quality education that he had started.
