He was married five times, but the romances were hardly easy things to negotiate. His first wife, Bobbe Arnst, played an essential role in getting him the Tarzan role, but only 18 months after they married in 1931, their union ended.
Weissmuller was less lucky in love. He married five times. His first wife was band and club singer Bobbe Arnst (married 1931 - divorced 1933). Johnny married her after a brief two week courtship. This was a time when his obligations to MGM were demanding, which may have been a destructive factor to the marriage.
Biography. On June 2, 1904 Janos (Johann) Peter Weissmuller was born to German parents in Freidorf, Romania, at the time part of the Austro-Hungarian empire. He was baptized as a Catholic three days later on June 5. On January 26, 1905 a seven month old Janos arrived at Ellis Island on the S.S. Rotterdam, after a trip of twelve days from Holland.
