They were followed by thirty-eight B-17C s (higher-powered Cyclones and revised armament), twenty of which were supplied to the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1941 as the Fortress Mk I .

Each B-17 was loaded with five 1,000-pound (453.6-kilogram) high explosive bombs.
