Brasenose College, Oxford University. Inside the front quad at Brasenose College. Tradition has it that Brasenose College takes its unusual name from its original 13th-century door knocker (now in the college dining room), shaped like a snout, or nose. The knocker was made of brass, hence "Brazen Nose" or "Brasenose".
Brasenose College purchased the house for the sake of that door knocker, which was brought to Oxford and now hangs over the high table in Hall. The College historians of the 1890s were convinced that the fourteenth century students of Brasenose Hall took the knocker from which they derived their name to Stamford, and that it had been restored to its rightful home at last.
Following purchase of a ticket, we would encourage all guests to donate to The Malala Fund UK (Charity number: 1178655), which advocates for girls' education in regions where many miss out on secondary education. We are celebrating 50 years of women at Brasenose College in 2024, and so will be also encouraging donation on the night of the Ball.
The collegiate system makes studying at Oxford a truly special experience. Degree students at Saïd Business School will be attached to a college, either as a full member or associate member.
