  3. Vernon Lee (the pseudonym of Violet Paget, 1856-1935) lived for many years in Florence. After her death in 1935, over 400 books from Vernon Lee's Library at the Villa 'Il Palmerino' were presented to The British Institute of Florence by her friend and executrix, Irene Cooper Willis.

  4. From our foundation in 1917, the Library has always been the beating heart of the British Institute of Florence. One of the largest English language lending libraries in Europe, it is a humanities collection, with strong holdings in English and Italian literature, history, and history of art.
