In Norway, he is known as Charles III John ( Norwegian: Karl III Johan) and before he became royalty in Sweden, his name was Jean-Baptiste Jules Bernadotte. [1]

In 1836, King Karl XIV Johan (the former Marshal Bernadotte, Karl III of Norway) appointed him Governor-General of Norway, a position he held until his death in 1840.
