Planta principal. La casa se construyó a principios del siglo XVIII para Henry Boyle, barón de Carlton, pasando a en dominio real cuando la adquirió Federico, príncipe de Gales en 1732. Su nieto amplió la casa con la ayuda del arquitecto Henry Holland entre los años 1782 y 1796.

Carlton House. Carlton House was a major renovation project of George IV before he became king and switched his attention to Buckingham Palace. Since the time of Henry VIII heirs to the throne had been awarded St James’s Palace as their London residence.
The history of Carlton House, the shortest-lived and yet the most tasteful and exquisite of London’s vanished royal residences, began in 1709 when the Royal Gardens, which were on the southern side of Pall Mall, were leased by the Crown to Henry Boyle, who was created Lord Carlton in 1714.
