Daughter of Margrave John of Küstrin – Catherine of Brandenburg-Küstrin was born in Kostrzyn nad Odrą (City and urban gmina of Poland) on August 10th, 1549 and died in Old Cölln (Human settlement in Germany) on September 30th, 1602 at the age of 53.
Catherine was the younger of two daughters of John, Margrave of Brandenburg-Küstrin (1513–1571) from his marriage to Catherine (1518–1574), daughter of Henry II, Duke of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. On 8 January 1570, she married Joachim of Brandenburg, later Elector Joachim III Frederick of Brandenburg (1546–1608) in Küstrin.
She married on 11 November 1537 in Wolfenbüttel Margrave John of Brandenburg-Küstrin (1513–1571). Catherine was instrumental in the spread of the Reformation in the Margraviate of Brandenburg. Catherine was considered extremely frugal and thrifty, and she actively supported her husband.
