Saint Cecilia was a noble lady of Rome who, with her husband Valerian, his brother Tiburtius, and a Roman soldier Maximus, suffered martyrdom ~230, under Emperor Alexander Severus. She was sentenced to death because she refused to worship the Roman gods. After attempts to suffocate her failed, she was beheaded.
