Château-Landon ( French pronunciation: [ʃɑto lɑ̃dɔ̃] ⓘ) is a commune in the Seine-et-Marne department in the Île-de-France region in north-central France. The commune contains within it the Souppes-sur-Loing quarry, where the bright white travertine stones for construction of the Sacré-Cœur, Paris, were sourced.
Located in the south of the Seine-et-Marne department, Château-Landon is a surprising village, built on a rocky outcrop overlooking the green valley of the Fusain river, which has earned it the nickname of "Rocamadour" of the Gâtinais.
The delightful medieval fortified town of Château-Landon is the historic capital of the Counts of the Gâtinais and a former pilgrimage site. Perched on a rocky promontory, its old houses, monuments, towers and pretty terraced gardens form a very scenic picture with the narrow Fusain river flowing past below.
