2 de dic. de 2023 · Under the charter of Charles II, granted on 27 July, 1664, the title of the corporation was changed to the mayor, aldermen, and burgesses of the borough of St. Alban, and instead of the ten principal burgesses twelve aldermen were appointed.

Hence the drastic threat. And despite the fact that this title came with no ducal estate or land in St Albans, Nell was apparently mollified.
