Captain Charles John Cary, 9th Viscount Falkland (November 1768 – 2 March 1809) was a Scottish peer and Royal Navy officer. Cary was the younger son of Lucius Cary, Master of Falkland and his wife Anne. He succeeded his elder brother Henry Cary, 8th Viscount Falkland in the peerage in 1796.

18 de mar. de 2024 · Captain Charles John Cary, 9th Viscount Falkland was born in November 1768.1 . He was the son of Lucius Ferdinand Cary, Master of Falkland and Anne Leith.1 . He married Christiana Anton on 25 August 1802.1 He died on 2 March 1809 at age 40, mortally wounded in a duel with Arthur Powell two days later.1

Lucius Cary, Viscount Falkland, was killed fighting in the English Civil War on 20 September 1643. Explanations for his death range from suicide to an accident of curiosity. But perhaps more interesting to consider is how his fatality would be contested in print.
MP for Hertshire 1614-22, and elevated to the Peerage of Scotland 10 November 1620 as Viscount Falkland and Lord Carye. Was Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland 1622-9. Married Elizabeth 27 June 1602, only daughter and heir of Sir Laurence Tanfield, Chief Baron of the Exchequer.
