After his grandfather's death, his grandmother remarried to the Rev. William Peter Pegus, with whom she had Maria Antoinetta Pegus. His aunt Maria married Charles Gordon, 10th Marquess of Huntly. Among his cousins were Charles Gordon, 11th Marquess of Huntly and Lord Douglas Gordon. He was educated at Eton and Magdalene College, Cambridge.
Charles Gordon, 10th Marquess of Huntly (4 January 1792 – 18 September 1863), styled Lord Strathavon from 1794 to 1836 and Earl of Aboyne from 1836 to 1853, was a Scottish peer, politician, courtier, and cricketer. He was a Member of Parliament, first as a Tory (1818–1830) and then a Whig (1830 onwards).
Charles Gordon, 10th Marquess of Huntly, 6th Earl of Aboyne, was born 4 January 1792 to George Gordon, 9th Marquess of Huntly (1761-1853) and Catherine Anne Cope (1771-1832) and died 18 September 1863 of unspecified causes. He married Elizabeth Henrietta Conyngham (1799-1839) 2 March 1826 . He married Maria Antoinetta Pegus (1822-1893) 9 April 1844 .
Charles Gordon, 11th Marquis of Huntly, was born at Orton Longueville, near Peterborough, on 5 March 1847. He was educated at Eton and he studied at Trinity College, Cambridge. He had succeeded to the Marquessate of Huntly in 1863 on the death of his father, Charles (1792-1863), 10th Marquess of Huntly.
