22 de ago. de 2022 · Charles Grey joined the army during the reign of King George II and was promoted on 31 May 1755 to Captain of a company in the 20th Foot. He proceeded with his regiment to Germany and was appointed aide-de-camp in 1758 to Prince Ferdinand of Brunswick. He continued to serve Prince Ferdinand up to the battle of Minden in 1759, where he was wounded.
Grey was born into an important family. He was born at their large house in Howick, Northumberland, England. Grey's father was a baronet. They had lived in and ruled Howick since the 1200s. Grey's two older brothers died before they could have their own children, but when Grey was a boy, he did not think he would inherit his father's land.
