She wed Charles William Frederick, Hereditary Prince of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel (1735-1806), later Charles II Duke of Brunswick, on 16 January 1764. This collection includes details of their marriage treaty and although this was a diplomatic union Augusta was initially happy with her husband - she wrote to George III in December 1764 that ‘I never knew anybody with a more real good heart’.

Rider(s): Charles II, Duke of Bruswich (1804 – 1873) moved to Geneva after the war between France and Germany broke out. He died in the Beau-Rivage Hotel in 1873 and left his considerable wealth to the city, which, at his request, constructed the Brunswick Monument to his memory inspired by (and so more or less a replica of) the Scaliger Tombs in Verona, Italy.
