Charles Lennox, 1st Duke of Richmond, 1st Duke of Lennox KG (29 July 1672 – 27 May 1723), of Goodwood House near Chichester in Sussex, was the youngest of the seven illegitimate sons of King Charles II, and was that king's only son by his French-born mistress Louise de Kérouaille, Duchess of Portsmouth.

The current dukedom of Richmond was created in 1675 for Charles Lennox, the illegitimate son of King Charles II of England and one of his mistresses, the Breton noblewoman Louise de Penancoët de Kérouaille; Charles Lennox was also made Duke of Lennox a month later.

22 de ago. de 2023 · Wikipedia Public Domain. The Duke's Marriage and Children. Charles married the twenty-year-old widow Anne Belasyse, née Brudenell on the 8th January 1692. Her paternal grandfather was the 2nd Earl of Cardigan and her father was the heir to the earldom. The couple had three children.
Through the influence of his uncle Charles Lennox, 3rd duke of Richmond, he rose rapidly, and on 26 March 1789 became a captain in the Coldstream foot guards. This angered its commander, the duke of York, the king's son, and his criticism of the appointment drew a swift reply. They fought a duel on 26 May, and Lennox shot off one of York's curls.
