Charles Phelps Taft was born 20 September 1897 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, United States to William Howard Taft (1857-1930) and Helen Louise Herron (1861-1943) and died 24 June 1983 Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, United States of unspecified causes. He married Eleanor Kellogg Chase (1894-1961) 6 October 1917 in Waterbury, New Haven County, Connecticut, United States.
Charles Phelps II Taft Biography American politician and member of the noted Taft family, he gained the nickname "Mr. Cincinnati" while serving as mayor of the major Ohio city from 1955 to 1957.
17 de jul. de 2022 · He was the uncle, or half-uncle, of Charles Phelps Taft II, as President William Howard Taft was his half-brother. He married Anna Sinton in 1873, who was an heiress to a pig iron fortune. Following his death, Annie (Anna) Sinton Taft donated $5 million to the University of Cincinnati in 1930 and established a memorial fund after his name.
Alphonso Taft was married twice. In 1841 he married Fanny Phelps (born 1823), daughter of Judge Charles Phelps, and they had five children, three of whom died in infancy: Charles Phelps Taft (December 21, 1843 – December 31, 1929) Peter Rawson Taft II (May 10, 1846 – June 3, 1889) Mary Taft (November 24, 1848 – November 29, 1848)
With his brother Charles Phelps Taft II, he co-founded the law partnership of Taft Stettinius & Hollister. Taft served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1921 to 1931 and in the Ohio Senate from 1931 to 1933. Though he lost re-election in 1932, he remained a powerful force in state and local politics.
Taft family political fortunes faltered with Robert's death in 1953, and with Charles Phelps Taft II available to spearhead the movement, the William Howard Taft Memorial Association eventually acquired the house for $35,000 (the assessment price), instead of the $75,000 Bellinger was demanding for it.
