William succeeded to the throne on the death of George IV, on 26 June 1830 and was in turn succeeded by his niece Queen Victoria as the couple remained childless.

But, as is often the case, the name does ring a bell with those interested in British royal history, as one of its daughters, Princess Adelaide, became a queen-consort of the United Kingdom, as wife of William IV (reigned 1830-37).
