He was descended from Louis I, Duke d’Orléans, who was the youngest surviving son of King Charles V of France known as the Wise ( le Sage ) and his cousin-wife, Queen Jeanne de Bourbon.
Charles de Valois (28 April 1573 – 24 September 1650) was the Duke of Angoulême and the illegitimate son of Charles IX of France and Marie Touchet; born at the Château de Fayet in Dauphiné.
