Constance Adams DeMille (April 27, 1873 – July 17, 1960) was an American actress and wife of filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille . Early life. Born in Orange, New Jersey, [1] DeMille was the daughter of Judge Fredrick Adams, [2] New Jersey Court of Errors and Appeals, [1] and Ella Adams, his first wife. She was raised in East Orange, New Jersey.

Despite publicists claiming he became an actor to learn how to direct and produce, DeMille later admitted that his primary motivation was to earn a living. Financial struggles led him to work as a stock theatre actor with his wife from 1904 to 1905.
