During the Thirty Years' War, her father and his family were compelled to seek refuge in the castle of Heidecksburg in Rudolstadt after being persecuted for their Lutheran Protestant faith.

Emilie (Ämilie, Aemilie) Juliane (19 August 1637 – 3 December 1706) was a German countess and hymn writer. Biography Emilie Juliane was a daughter of Count Albert Frederick I of Barby-Mühlingen and his wife, Sophia Ursula of Oldenburg-Delmenhorst.
Aemilie Juliane war die Tochter des Grafen Albert Friedrich von Barby und Mühlingen und seiner Gattin Ursula, geb. von Oldenburg-Delmenhorst. Während des Dreißigjährigen Krieges wohnte die Familie bei Graf Ludwig Günther von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt (1581–1646) auf der Heidecksburg. Aemilie Julianes Vater starb 1641 und die Mutter 1642.
