La cumparsita" (little street procession, a grammatical diminutive of la comparsa) is a tango written in 1916 by the Uruguayan musician Gerardo Matos Rodríguez, with lyrics by Argentines Pascual Contursi and Enrique Pedro Maroni . It is among the most famous and recognizable tangos of all time.

La cumparsita is one of the most well-known Tango songs ever. It was composed by Gerardo Matos Rodríguez . The cumparsita is usually the last song played after the last tanda at a milonga . "Cumparsa" (or "comparsa") is a Lunfardo word for a group of people fancy-dressed (in masks) for a carneval, "cumparsita" is the diminutive form.
3 de jul. de 2021 · The tango, whose title translates to ‘the little parade’, was first played in public in the old Café La Giralda in Montevideo, by Orchestra Roberto Firpo. La Cumparsita starts at 4:27, because of course - since this is the most well-known song - they had requested it!
In 1957 his string orchestra recorded a different arrangement of La Cumparsita for Music Hall. And finally in 1967 he recorded another version with a big orchestra for Polydor. Alberto Mancione made, in my point of view, a remarkable recording —on June 13, 1952—, which was awarded in Tokyo as the best rendition of that tango.
