Hace 1 día · The Normandy landings were the landing operations and associated airborne operations on Tuesday, 6 June 1944 of the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord during World War II. Codenamed Operation Neptune and often referred to as D-Day, it is the largest seaborne invasion in history.

It was launched on June 6, 1944 (D-Day), with the simultaneous landing of U.S., British, and Canadian forces on five separate beachheads in Normandy, France. The success of the landings would play a key role in the defeat of the Nazi’s Third Reich.

During the six days following the D-Day landings, a total of around 5,000 German military trains were trapped somewhere along their routes due to damage caused by bombing or Resistance attacks.
