Kneller made this unusual oil study showing three views of the unwigged head of Daniel Finch, 2nd Earl of Nottingham and 7th Earl of Winchilsea to guide a sculptor making a portrait of the Tory statesman. Another sitter of Kneller's, William Stukeley, wrote in his diary for 1720: '7 June. I sat to Sir Godfrey Kneller for my pictures.

30 de abr. de 2022 · Daniel Finch, 8th Earl of Winchilsea and 3rd Earl of Nottingham, KG, PC (24 May 1689 – 2 August 1769) was a British politician. Styled Lord Finch until 1730, he was the eldest son of Daniel Finch, 2nd Earl of Nottingham and his second wife Anne Hatton, daughter of Christopher Hatton, 1st Viscount Hatton.
Daniel Finch, the 2nd Earl of Nottingham and 7th Earl of Winchilsea, was a man of immense political influence and clout in his time. He was a Tory statesman who stood for his beliefs and supported the Hanoverian Succession in 1714. He was a man who knew what he wanted and worked tirelessly to achieve it.
