Adam, Earl of Angus. Adam (perhaps representing the name Áedán ), ruled from sometime prior to 1189 as Mormaer of Angus. Almost nothing is known of him, but it is fairly certain that he was the son of Gille Brigte, the previous Mormaer. He died young and was succeeded (if they did not rule jointly) by his younger brother Gille Críst .
He was born at Tantallon Castle, East Lothian, Scotland. He was the natural-illegitimate son of William Douglas, 1st Earl of Douglas and Margaret Stewart, Dowager Countess of Mar & Countess of Angus and Lady Abernethy in her own right. Earl of Angus wurde damit zu einem nachgeordneten Titel, der als Höflichkeitstitel vom jeweiligen Heir apparent geführt wurde. Der 3. Marquess wurde 1703 zum Duke of Douglas erhoben, starb aber 1761 kinderlos, so dass der Duke-Titel wieder erlosch. Der Marquess- und der Earl-Titel fielen an den 7. Duke of Hamilton aus dem Haus Douglas-Hamilton.

William Douglas, 10th Earl of Angus (1554 – 3 March 1611) was a Scottish nobleman. He was the son of William Douglas, 9th Earl of Angus (1533–1591). He was a direct descendant of King James I through his paternal grandmother, Agnes Keith, a daughter of William Keith, 3rd Earl Marischal .
