David Nitschmann (zur Unterscheidung von namensgleichen Personen in der Herrnhuter Überlieferung meist mit dem Beinamen Bischof oder auch David Nitschmann V.; * 18. Dezember 1695 [1] in Zauchtenthal; † 8. Oktober 1772 in Bethlehem (Pennsylvania)) war ein deutsch-mährischer Missionar und Bischof der Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine .
On March 13, 1735, David Nitschmann was ordained as the first bishop of the renewed Moravian Church. Though not much publicity was given to it at the time, this ordination had major consequences for the later development of the Moravian Church. During the 1730s the Moravian movement spread beyond the original community of Herrnhut.

Nitschmann, David. Nitschmann, David the first bishop of the Renewed Moravian Church (q.v.), was born Dec. 27, 1696, at Zauchtenthal, in Moravia. At the age of twenty-seven years he fled to Herrnhut, in Saxony, and took an active part in the renewal of the Church, laboring at the same time as one of its itinerant evangelists.
