It is unclear whether Darnley himself did the dragging or the stabbing or whether one of his henchmen performed the actual slaughter.

On the evening of the 9th March 1566 he was murdered by her jealous husband Lord Darnley and others.This is his story excellently explored by David Tweedie Oxford-educated and the descendent of two of Rizzios murderers.

It is said, however, that Rizzio was gay and was just a close friend and confidante. He was dining with the Queen, when the mob burst in to her private rooms and, despite their pleadings, Rizzio was stabbed to death.
