  2. The 1911 Delhi Durbar was held in December 1911 following the coronation in London in June of that year of King George V and Queen Mary. The King and Queen travelled to Delhi for the Durbar. For the occasion, the statutory limits of the membership of the Order of the Star of India and the Order of the Indian Empire were increased and many appointments were made to these and other orders.

  4. 25 de oct. de 2023 · The exhibition features a set of two handcrafted Durbar armchairs, specially crafted for the Delhi Durbar of 1911 to seat high-ranking dignitaries. They are decorated with banners proclaiming ‘Delhi 1911’, the Imperial cypher ‘GRI’ ( George Rex Imperator), and an armorial shield with the coat of arms of the Coville clan, the invitee it was meant for.

  6. The medal was distributed, not only to those present at the Durbar, but to others throughout India who contributed to the Raj. The ribbon was the same as for the medal for King George's Coronation, and while the obverse design is the same, the Durbar Medal is larger, being 1½ inches in diameter, compared with 1¼ inches for the Coronation Medal.

The purpose of the durbar was to honour George V as the ‘king-emperor’ of India; but it was also at the durbar that he announced the transfer of the Capital of British India from Calcutta to Delhi.
