The nation of Georgia ( Georgian: საქართველო sakartvelo) was first unified as a kingdom under the Bagrationi dynasty by the King Bagrat III of Georgia in the early 11th century, arising from a number of predecessor states of the ancient kingdoms of Colchis and Iberia.
See media help. Thou Art a Vineyard ( Georgian: შენ ხარ ვენახი, romanized: shen khar venakhi) is a medieval Georgian hymn. The text is attributed to King Demetrius I of Georgia (1093–1156). The composer of the music is unknown. Supposedly Demetrius I wrote it during his confinement as a monk in the David Gareja Monastery.

Demetrius I (Georgian: დემეტრე) (c. 1093 – 1156), from the Bagrationi dynasty, was King of Georgia from 1125 to 1156. He is also known as a poet. He was King of United Georgian kingdom two times, first in 1125 to 1154 and second in 1155 before his death in 1156.
Demetrius is zoon van koning David IV de Bouwer en Roesoedan van Armenië. Hij volgde zijn vader in 1125 op na diens dood. Demetrius was als bevelhebber aanwezig bij zijn vaders veldslagen in Didgori en Sjirvan . In 1154 werd hij door zijn oudste zoon David V gedwongen om troonsafstand te nemen en monnik te worden.
