Doug Yule was born in Mineola, Long Island, New York, and grew up in Great Neck with five sisters and a younger brother. As a child he took piano and baritone horn lessons. He later said in an interview that he would have preferred violin lessons, but the violin had to be rented and the baritone horn was available free of charge.
Subtitled, A Career Retrospective, 1973-1977, Diamonds by the Yard is a compilation drawn from Elliott Murphy’s four major-label albums, Aquashow (1973), Lost Generation (1975), Night Lights (1976), and Just a Story from America (1977).
The album featured guest appearances by fellow Long Island native Billy Joel and former Velvet Underground member Doug Yule. The cover photo of Murphy standing in Times Square early one Sunday Morning was taken by photographer Michael Dakota although stylised by Steven Meisel .

DohertyClash Jul 22 2015. One of his truly best albums ("Diamonds by the yard", "Isadora's dancers", are great tunes). My copy of this album (french pressing from the year of the release) have a small mistake on the labels : side A's tracks are indicated reversed (that means first "Abraham Lincoln...", then "Deco dance", then "Rich girl" then ...
