Duchess Donata of Mecklenburg (born 11 March 1956) is the senior remaining member of the House of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Duchess Donata of Mecklenburg is the senior remaining member of the House of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Since there are no males left in the family, the Schwerin branch itself is considered extinct due to the Salic law of succession, leaving Mecklenburg-Strelitz as the only remaining line of the House of Mecklenburg.
As a result since 2001 the head of the House of Mecklenburg-Strelitz is in effect head of the entire House of Mecklenburg. Although extinct in the male line since 2001 the House of Mecklenburg-Schwerin still has two living female members, Duchess Donata, born 1956, and Duchess Edwina, born 1960, the two daughters of Duke Christian Ludwig.
The death on 31 July 2001 of Hereditary Grand Duke Friedrich Franz of Mecklenburg-Schwerin has left the House of Mecklenburg-Strelitz as the only remaining line of the House of Mecklenburg extant in the male line, two members of the House of Mecklenburg-Schwerin remain in the form of Duchess Donata and her sister Duchess Edwina (born 1960), the two daughters of Duke Christian Ludwig.

In addition to Duke Borwin, the current members of the House of Mecklenburg-Strelitz are his wife Duchess Alice (née Wagner; born 1959); their children Duchess Olga (born 1988), the Dukes Alexander (born 1991) and Michael (born 1994); and his sisters, the Duchesses Elisabeth Christine (born 1947), Marie Catherine (born 1949) and Irene (born 1952).
