Duchess Donata of Mecklenburg (born 11 March 1956) is the senior remaining member of the House of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Since there are no males left in the family, the Schwerin branch itself is considered extinct due to the Salic law of succession, leaving Mecklenburg-Strelitz as the only remaining line of the House of Mecklenburg .

Her Highness Helene Olga Feodora Donata Maria Katharina Theresia, Duchess of Mecklenburg, Princess of Wenden, Schwerin and Ratzeburg, Countess of Schwerin, Lady of the Lands of Rostock and Stargard, was born on 13 October 1988 in Freiburg-im-breisgau.
Although unable to become the formal head of the House of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Duchess Donata represents the family and is the legal heir to the legacy and estate of her grandfather Grand Duke Friedrich Franz IV which includes various forests and works of art.
With the adoption the survival of the House of Mecklenburg-Strelitz was secured and Count Georg and his family adopted the titles duke/duchess of Mecklenburg along with the coat of arms of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and the family motto ‘Avito viret honore’, meaning ‘He flourishes with hereditary honours’.
The remaining members of the House of Mecklenburg-Schwerin are the daughters of Duke Christian Ludwig, the second son of Frederick Francis IV, the Duchesses Donata (born 1956) and Edwina (born 1960).
Duke Christian Louis of Mecklenburg (German: Christian-Ludwig Herzog zu Mecklenburg; 29 September 1912 – 18 July 1996) was the second son of the last reigning Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Frederick Francis IV.
