Elizabeth had once been engaged to Joanna's brother Charles Augustus (1706–1727), who died shortly before the wedding, and Elizabeth cherished his memory for her whole life. Johanna was quick to write a congratulatory letter, and later sent a portrait of Elizabeth's deceased sister, Grand Duchess Anna Petrovna , for which she received a very valuable portrait of the Empress.
1 de sept. de 2021 · In 1992, the Moscow Patriarchate canonized Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna as Holy Martyr Elizabeth Feodorovna, bringing light to her work to uplift the poor and create a safe haven for women. Ironically, a statue of her was also raised in the garden of her convent after the Soviet Union dissolved, with an inscription that reads, “To the Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna: With Repentance.”

She served as regent for her son after the deaths in 1752–1753 of her husband and brother-in-law of, respectively, the ducal appanage of Mirow and of the Duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz .

Duchess Elisabeth Christina was married to Baron Alhard Bussche-Ippenburg Kessell in a civil wedding on 15 November 1974 at Ludenscheid. This was followed by a religiously wedding on 3 May 1975 at Hohenzollern Castle. After their marriage the couple lived at the Neuenhof Palace in Ludenscheid which is the property of the Bussche-Ippenburg family.
